Become a HOBIT Volunteer and “Help Out a BIT!”
What is a HOBIT and why would I want to be one?
A HOBIT is a Girl Scout Volunteer who agrees to “Help Out a BIT” in order to assist their Service Unit or Team. It is an easy way to help the Service Unit and TEAM without making a long-term commitment.
Who can be a HOBIT?
Any registered leader, Responsible Adult or Senior Girl Scout.
What is the time commitment?
- The time commitment would be six (6) hours per troop year (September – June)
- The commitment could be fulfilled with several small tasks or with one or two larger tasks
What if I don’t fulfill my six hour commitment?
- There are no obligations. This is just a way for us to organize our resources more efficiently.
- Instead of a few volunteers doing too much, we can have many volunteers do just a little bit more.
How does it Work?
- All HOBIT volunteers are entered into a database along with their availability (and non-availability).
- The database is managed by the SU Manager or a HOBIT Chief.
- When a Team member has a request for some extra help, the database is queried for all volunteers who meet the criteria of the request.
- All volunteers who meet the criteria are emailed.
- All contacted Volunteers will respond as to whether or not they can help.
- The SU Manager will put an available HOBIT and the Team member in touch with each other.
- When the HOBIT has completed her task she will email the HOBIT chief who will record her hours. If she has met her 6 hour commitment she is removed from the available HOBIT list.
Is there any ‘reward’ for completing my 6 hour commitment?
- The satisfaction of knowing you made a difference is probably reward enough for most of us.
- However in addition to that satisfaction we will have a special HOBIT raffle at each SUM with the names of all HOBITs who have completed their 6 hour commitment.
- The winner will receive either a $10.00 Starbucks Gift Certificate or $10.00 31 Flavors Gift Certificate. (Winner’s choice.)
- Everyone’s name will stay in the raffle bucket until they win.
- Winner doesn’t need to be present to win.
